Third cycle of EUPATI Expert Training Course open for applications

This is an excellent education opportunity for patients, patient advocates, and carers who have an interest in the medicines development process. The EUPATI expert training course – which has run two cycles (2014 and 2015), and has graduated 96 ‘EUPATI Fellows’ from 31 countries across 58 disease areas – will run a third cycle between September 2017 and December 2018.

Who should apply?

The EUPATI Patient Expert Training Course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of patients and patient advocates who have the motivation and skill-set to be able to learn and apply expert-level knowledge across the whole spectrum of the medicine research and development process. You should apply if you meet all of the requirements listed on this page.

What does the course entail?

250 hours of online lessons, and study, and two face-to-face meetings in 2018, where you will have to travel to a European destination for five days each time. The course content will cover:

  1. Discovery of Medicines & Planning of Medicines Development
  2. Non-Clinical Testing and Pharmaceutical Development
  3. Exploratory and Confirmatory Clinical Development
  4. Clinical Trials
  5. Regulatory Affairs, Medicinal Product Safety, Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology
  6. Health Technology Assessment Principles and practices

The Expert Training Course is a significant undertaking, with complicated subject matter. Nevertheless, IPPOSI can attest to the value it provides for graduating fellows In terms of their own self-confidence, and ability to reach out and engage other stakeholders in the medicines R&D space.

Are there any Irish ‘EUPATI Fellows’ who have completed the course?

Yes, nine Irish people have completed the course. Two of them are featured in the webinar clip above.

EUPATI into the future

EUPATI will continue under the European Patients’ Forum albeit at 25% of previous capacity. It will focus on three strands of activity:

  • The EUPATI Toolbox
  • The EUPATI National Platforms (ENP) network – coordinated by IPPOSI
  • The Patient Expert Training Course
