"Chain of Trust" Online Survey
The European Patients' Forum (EPF) is implementing, together with other six partners, an EU project co-financed by the EU Public Health Programme called "Chain of Trust". Started in January 2011, this project aims to assess the perspectives of the main end users of telehealth services, i.e. patients, doctors, nurses and pharmacists across the EU to see whether and how views have evolved since the initial deployment of telehealth and what barriers there still are to building confidence in and acceptance of this innovative type of services.
For more information on Chain of Trust, please visit the project website at www.chainoftrust.eu or contact Liuska Sanna or Walter Atzori.
One of the tools that the Chain of Trust consortium is using in order to assess the views of patients and health professionals on telehealth is an online survey. This survey, which is available in 11 languages, is aimed at both users and non-users of telehealth services and consists of two questionnaires, one for patients and one for health professionals.
The online questionnaires can be accessed directly using the links listed below.
Please choose survey language and type of survey you wish to participate (Patients or Health Professionals):
Deutsch: Patienten / Angehörige der Gesundheitsberufe
Ελληνικά: Ασθενείς / Επαγγελματίες υγείας
English: Patients / Health professionals
Español: Pacientes / Profesionales del sector sanitario
Français: Patients / Professionnels de santé
Italiano: Pazienti / Professionisti sanitari
Latviešu: Pacientiem / Veselības aprūpes speciālistiem
Nederlands: Patiënten / Zorgverleners
Norsk: Pasienter / Helsepersonell
Polski: Pacjenci / Pracownicy Opieki Zdrowotnej
Português: Pacientes / Profissionais de saúde
EPF will particularly value your support in disseminating this online survey across patient and health professional groups to help us reach out to as many respondents as possible. We would be very grateful, therefore, if you could disseminate this survey across your members and contacts.
On behalf of the project consortium, we would like to thank you very much for your valuable input and for contributing towards a successful completion of the project! The deadline for submitting the survey is Wednesday 20 July.

Conference in Donegal to highlight Myasthenia Gravis
The Myasthenia Gravis Association will host a conference on Saturday, 21st May 2011, in Mill Park Hotel, Donegal Town to raise awareness of the auto-immune disease in Donegal.
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) causes a breakdown between nerves and muscles, and results in loss of effectiveness in the muscles of the arms, legs and eyes. In Ireland, there are almost 400 diagnosed sufferers of MG on the Myasthenia Gravis Association's database, but it is estimated that for every diagnosed sufferer there are at least two to three others whose condition is undetected or who are unaware of the Association.
The conference, which will run from 10.00am - 1.00pm, is intended to provide MG sufferers with more information, as well as raising general awareness of the disease. It will look at the diagnosis and treatment of MG and highlight the benefits and entitlements available for patients.
Conference speakers will include:
- Dr. Jennifer Spillane, neurologist from Cork working with the MG medical research team in London. She will speak on the current methods of diagnosing Myasthenia Gravis and the available treatments.
- MG specialist nurse, Orla Kenny, from the Department of Neurology, St Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin. She will speak about MG in Ireland and on her role as a MG specialist nurse in assisting patients.
The conference is free-of-charge and the public, especially people suffering from MG, are encouraged to attend. To register, please go to www.mga-charity.ie or contact Karen Clancy on 065-6838270, text 087-4160385 or by email at

MMI SEMINAR
7TH APRIL 2010
Capturing the benefits of research for health, jobs and innovation
Advances in genomic and proteomic research are changing our understanding of human health and disease. How do we ensure that these advances in research are translated into better outcomes for patients and advances in population health? How do we link the expertise of our researchers with that of our health services so patients benefit, new jobs are created and Ireland’s knowledge economy grows?
Molecular Medicine Ireland invites you to attend a seminar to explore these issues on Thursday 7 April from 18:00 to 19:30 hrs at Studio 1 in the Science Gallery, Naughton Institute, Trinity College, Pearse St, Dublin 2.
Two international leaders in genomic and proteomic research will address the seminar:
Dr Alan Winter, President and CEO of Genome BC, will speak from a Canadian and British Columbian perspective on the best way to encourage the translation of health research into the health system and the potential benefits to society; and
Dr Frank Giles, recently appointed Professor of Cancer Therapeutics at NUI Galway and Trinity College Dublin and an international authority on the development of new drugs to treat chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), will address the challenge of translating the benefits of health research in Ireland.
Tom Lynch, Chairman of Molecular Medicine Ireland, will introduce the speakers and chair the discussion.
A wine reception will follow the seminar.
