Brexit update

Following a meeting in June with the EU Article 50 Taskforce negotiating team from the European Commission, IPPOSI’s CEO Derick Mitchell has been invited to participate in a European Parliament event on Sept. 27th, 2018, organised by a number of pan-European health stakeholder organisations. Derick will again be advocating for the protection of the health and safety of EU and UK patients during the Brexit negotiations, with particular emphasis on patients on the island of Ireland. A short summary of key points from the June 2018 meeting with the European Commission is available here.

IPPOSI seeking new board members in 2018!

IPPOSI is seeking to appoint up to three new directors (board members) at the 2018 IPPOSI AGM in October. The IPPOSI Board of Directors (non-executive) is made up of 20 representatives from our current membership – Patient Organisations (8), Science (6) and Industry (6). EUPATI National Platform Officer role in IPPOSI

This part-time role (16 hours per week) will work collaboratively with the EUPATI National Co-ordinator (Gemma Killeen), and will be based in IPPOSI offices, Dublin. Topline details are here. Deadline for applications Wednesday August 15th, 2018 (5pm).

EUPATI News

The report arising from the EUPATI National Platform AGM & Capacity Building Workshop has been published and is available online here.

Elsewhere, we are delighted to report that Finland has become the latest EU country to launch a EUPATI National Platform (ENP), so congratulations to all involved there. Finland is the 19th country to establish a formal ENP.

Patient & Public Involvement in clinical trial design & development

IPPOSI wishes to say a big thank you to Board Member Dr Jean Saunders (University of Limerick), who gave a presentation about Patient involvement in Clinical Trial Design at the 5th World Congress on Advanced Clinical Trials & Clinical Research, in Singapore. IPPOSI (and EUPATI) featured heavily in her presentation, and the patient-led model drew a lot of interest from the attendees. You can see Dr Saunders’ presentation here.

All Trials Campaign

IPPOSI is delighted to be a part of the campaign along with 741 other organisations and some 90k+ signatories. AllTrials calls for all past and present clinical trials to be registered and their full methods and summary results reported. More here.

IPPOSI Presentations & Videos

IPPOSI recently published these seven short videos about the student experience of the Pilot Patient Education Programme – the highlights, challenges, and surprises. We encourage you to view them and share with patients and carers who might be interested in patient education.

Patient Advocate training: Hackathon

The European Patients Forum are hosting a Hackathon in October for patient advocates. The event takes place in Brussels, with the proposed challenge being to solve “How to make health a priority for the European Union post-2020 and position the patient community as a key stakeholder in the EU health policy debates?” For those interested, all the details you need are here.

New CEO at the HRB: Darrin Morrissey

Darrin Morrissey has taken up his position as Chief Executive at the Health Research Board. Prior to joining the HRB, Darrin was the Director of Programmes and Investments with Science Foundation Ireland. IPPOSI is pleased to be welcoming Darrin as one of our panelists at our Annual Conference in October.
