• The Board of Directors provides strategic direction and governance to our organisation, helping to support the IPPOSI staff and guide all aspects of our work.
  • Our Board consists of 20 patient, scientific and industry leaders and representatives from our current membership. The Chair of IPPOSI is always from a patient organisation and the Board of IPPOSI is weighted in favour of patient organisations (8:6:6).
  • We aim to have a broad range of experiences on the Board from those working in a professional capacity at one of our member organisations.
  • Board members are also registered as (non-executive) directors of the Irish Platform for Patient Organisations, Science and Industry (our registered company name).
Directors are expected to attend five board meetings a year and to participate in the life of the organisation between meetings.  In addition to attending board meetings, board members are expected to involve themselves in one of the board sub-committees and attend the annual general meeting.  Meetings are held in Dublin on week days. Appointments are for 3 years and renewable for a further term.

As an IPPOSI director, you would have the opportunity to become involved in:

  • Key national policy debates surrounding healthcare and clinical research. You would be able to share your views and experiences at the highest level, through our work.
  • Our ongoing activities and projects, helping us to identify our strategic priorities and meet others who are involved in a variety of capacities at across the island of Ireland.
  • In order to serve as a director of IPPOSI you must be nominated by one of our members using the nomination form on page 5 of our board recruitment pack.
  • Nomination forms will be reviewed by the governance subgroup of the IPPOSI Board on a 6-monthly basis.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and the panel will subsequently decide which candidates to recommend to our membership at the AGM.
  • Prior to proposal for election to the Board, due diligence checks will be completed.
  • Appointments will be confirmed in writing, subject to the outcome of the vote at the Board level / our AGM.
