Mobile health (mHealth) concerns the use of mobile applications such as those used by individuals on smart phones and mobile devices. These range from applications for facilitating tracking and monitoring blood glucose levels for diabetic patients to promoting independent living for persons with autism. The aim is to proactively manage healthcare, to avoid costly hospitalisations and to prevent unnecessary worsening of chronic diseases. The data is
typically transmitted back to a monitoring base (often a hospital) where decision support systems (including pre-set alarms, alerts and management care flows) assist care personnel.
